Pearl Harbor (Two-Disc 60th Anniversary Commemorative Edition)

I liked this movie - Too bad it's another MPEG2 encode
This movie was definitely one to show off the Blu-Ray format, but some corporate genius decided not to pay MS royalties for the use of VC-1, and they went with MPEG2 again on PH. Unless you have the sharpness dialed down on your set, or a 720p display blocking can be seen on this title pretty easily. If you're not sensitive to it then you're lucky. It comes through looking almost like a second layer of grain, but not the very fine grain of good film we're used to. I know some films are intentionally grainy, but rather than error diffusion (like real grain) this movie exhibits patterned grain. It is an artifact of MPEG2 block in motion.

Titles released on Blu-Ray in VC1 encoding have proven how much better they can look. Why won't they maximize the potential of the format already?

Great movie, but so so video transfer
This movie is very enjoyable in plot and special effects. But, unfortunately the video transfer was poorly done in Blu-ray. If you already have standard DVD version, save your money.

A BETTER CUT & A GREAT DVD RELEASE!
The Vista Series has released the biggest and greatest DVD package ever assembled with "Pearl Harbor- The Director's Cut." The new 184 Minute cut is edited better. The attack sequence is more realistic and graphic, the reason for this cut's R-rating. And the four-disc set features hours of behind-the-scenes footage, two documentaries on the real attack and the Doolittle Raid, and commentary tracks from Michael Bay and Janine Basinger; Jerry Brucheimer, Ben Affleck, Josh Hartnett and Alec Baldwin; The Director of Photography, Costume Designer, Visual Effects Supervisor and Composer. A great addition to the DVD collection. And if you think this is good, then get ready for the November release of "The Lord of the Rings: The Fellowship of the Ring- The Director's Edition" four-disc set! Movie Grade: A+; DVD Grade: A+

Wild Hearts Can't Be Broken

A Profile of Courage and Tenacity
Based on a true story, this film is not only entertaining, but as inspirational as they come; a paean to the indomitability of the human spirit in the face of the kind of adversity that would make most of us simply roll over and quit. It's the story of the kind of challenges life can throw at anyone at random, and then follow up with yet another curve that seemingly takes it beyond the limits of human endurance. It's a film that should be required viewing for anyone who has ever cried out that the world owes them a living, because the message of "Wild Hearts Can't Be Broken," directed by Steve Miner, is that "Life" isn't fair, but when the worst happens you have to pick yourself up by the bootstraps and get on with it; nobody's going to do it for you. "Wild Hearts Can't Be Broken"
A great movie for horse-lovers of all ages. The main character, Sonora endures a number of life changing events that to the average person may seem exceptionally dramatic and difficult to overcome. Her strong will to have her dream even when it seemed impossible shows a great example to us all! Vic- tory only comes to those of us who are always willing to try one more time. Overall this video shows us good moral examples. There is no sex or violence to speak of. This is also a true story. It shows our children to have dreams and go after them. Have integrity, faith, hope, love through the bad times as well as the good. Above all, if you want something out of life be willing to work hard for it. Don't let someone else steal your dream!

Just a Great Movie
Call me sentimental. Call me a pushover for kids and animals but this is a great movie I just happened to stumble on.

Parents: Run don't walk and buy this for the family. Disney did it again. Heartwarming tale of an orphan girl makes good. She makes good in the public eye but also, and the important lesson from the story, makes good overcoming terrible odds.

I am surprised there have not been hundreds of reviews of this movie. Absorbing for adults and children. Good lessons to be learned. An hour and a half well spent.

Eloise At Christmastime

Absolutely Divine
Eloise, she is such fun. And I wish that I could live in the Plaza and share her adventures, and be her 'Mostly Companion.' Eloise played by Sophia Vassilieva was a perfect choice and was absolutely divine. And of course Julie Andrews!!! She is wonderful!

Everyone, in this film, is just so wonderful, that you feel that you are there! Everything is realistic, but make believe at the same time! Eloise, the clever, bratty, fun, loveable, sweet, and so caring is just the character that little girls love!

This movie is about 4 really main characters: Eloise (of course), Bill (the waiter) Nanny (Nanny), and Rachel, (The Plaza owners daughter). Eloise becomes involved in matchmaking. When Rachel returns from college with her fiance, Eloise and her become friends. And she finds out that Rachel loved the plaza when she was her age. She also finds out that her and Bill are old sweethearts and still secretly in love, against the will of her father who wants her to marry...

Eloise is such fun!!
Eloise is a six-year-old girl. While her mom travels the world, Eloise (Sofia Vassilieva) spends most of her time in New York City's Plaza Hotel, where she lives with her "mostly companion", rawther British Nanny (Julie Andrews). This movie is my most absolute FAVORITE, FAVORITE, FAVORITE!!!
I grew up reading the Eloise books and always loved them. We read those stories over and over and thought that Eloise and all of her antics were hillarious to the point that my sister and I wanted to BE Eloise. However, when my sister purchased this movie for my 3 year old daughter I was a little concerned. Though I love the Eloise stories, I didn't necessarily think that Eloise was the best role model for my impressionable young daughter. However, to my very happy surprise, Disney has managed to present an adorable, sweet, caring version of the little girl from the books, while still staying true to so many of her little quirks and mischief that make her so lovable and entertaining.

This movie is very well acted all around, especially by the Eloise and Nanny (Julie Andrews) characters, both of whom have a warmth and sweetness not evident in the book that only adds to movie version and makes it much more appropriate for kids. Purists of the book that are looking for...

Hocus Pocus

A Halloween Treat For Everyone
This movie is criminally underrated. First of all, the film wasn't the flop people think it is. It did over 45 million at the box office. Okay, that settled, let's dig in. Three witches from the 1800's are hung for taking the souls out of children in Salem, Mass. Present day Salem, a lonely teen resurrects the three hags accidentally while visiting their old cottage that has turned into a mini museum. The witches, well cast and perfectly played by Bette Midler, Sarah Jessica Parker, and Kathy Najimy, set out on Halloween night to take the souls from the children as they trick or treat. The three lead actresses are perfect in their roles. They really bring them to life. This is a fun, light hearted film that the whole family can enjoy. The setting and decoration is perfect and has that great Halloweeny feel. There's also a funny cameo by Penny Marshall and Garry Marshall as husband and wife(but who are real life brother and sister in case you didn't know). This is a real great vehicle...

Fun filled witchy romp!
I have loved this movie ever since my mom took me to see it in the theater when I was 6 years old. Ever since (even after I was allowed to watch actual scary halloween movies) this has been my very favorite movie to put in the DVD player, pop some popcorn and have fun.

If you are looking for a movie to laugh all the way through or something to watch with the kids I suggest you pick up a copy of this movie. You won't regret it!
